How to Connect and Configure the Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre
The Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre is the audio interface used in Plug The Jack recording and production studios.
Before recording, check the connection to your computer and the configuration in Focusrite Control and your DAW.
This tutorial covers the Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre installed in our recording studios, which you can book by the hour.
Connect and configure the Focusrite
1. Install Focusrite Control
Download Focusrite Control and the required drivers for the Clarett+ 4Pre before your session.
If this is the first time you install Focusrite Control on your computer, restart the computer after installation so the interface can be recognised correctly.

2. Reset the interface before your session
We recommend starting each session by restoring the interface to its factory settings in Focusrite Control.
This gives you a known starting point and avoids settings left by a previous user.
3. Turn on the Focusrite
Turn on the audio interface using the switch on the back.
4. Check the audio outputs
At the back of the Focusrite, make sure the speaker jack cables are connected only to LINE OUTPUT 1 and 2.
5. Connect your computer directly
Use the USB cable to connect your computer to the Focusrite.
Always connect the audio interface directly to your computer, without a USB hub.
6. Check the connection lights
When the connection works correctly, the three green lights above the Monitor control should be on.
Your computer and DAW should then recognise the Focusrite as an audio device.
7. Select Focusrite USB Audio
In the audio settings of your Mac or PC, select Focusrite USB Audio as the input and output device.
Make the same selection in your DAW audio settings.
Focusrite Control shows “No hardware connected”
If Focusrite Control shows “No hardware connected”, check the USB connection first.
The three green LEDs on the front of the Focusrite should be lit.
If they are not, there may be a connection problem between the interface and your computer.
Connect the Focusrite directly to your computer, without a hub or adapter, and check again whether it is recognised.
Focusrite Control will not install or Windows crashes
Some programs running on your computer can interfere with the installation of Focusrite Control or its drivers.
Check in particular:
- firewalls;
- antivirus software;
- some anti-cheat software;
- older versions of McAfee that can cause issues during driver installation.
If installation fails, check Task Manager for software running in the background that may be blocking the installer.
You can also right-click the installer .exe file and select Run as administrator.
