How to Start the CDJ & DJM
Before you start mixing, check the basic setup of the CDJs, DJM and speakers.
This tutorial covers the CDJ-3000s and the DJM-A9 and DJM-V10 mixers installed in our DJ studios, which you can book by the hour.
In short
- Turn on the CDJs, DJM and speakers.
- Check that the audio cables between the CDJs and DJM are connected correctly.
- Select LINE as the channel source when playing directly from the CDJs.
- Keep Balance centered.
- Set Trim so the signal does not clip.
- Then raise the Master level gradually.
1. Turn on the equipment
Check that the CDJs and DJM are powered on and that the speakers have power.
Start at low volume and raise the level only after you have confirmed that the signal is passing through the mixer correctly.
2. Check the CDJ-to-DJM connection
The audio outputs from the CDJs should be connected to the correct LINE IN inputs on the DJM.
The standard DJ setup remains wired in the studio. Only move cables when necessary for your own setup and restore the standard configuration after your session.
3. Select the correct source on the DJM
If you are playing directly from USB drives on the CDJs, set the channels you are using to LINE.
If you use a computer through the mixer USB connection, the correct source can vary depending on the DJM model and USB port used.
4. Set Balance, Trim and Master
- Keep Balance centered.
- Set each channel's Trim so the signal does not clip.
- Raise the Master level gradually to the desired listening volume.
