How to Connect the RØDECaster Pro to Your Computer

You can record your podcast directly on your computer by connecting the RØDECaster Pro to your DAW.

You can record the microphones separately in multichannel mode or capture one stereo mix.

This tutorial covers the RØDECaster Pro installed in our podcast studios, which you can book by the hour.

In short

  1. Connect the RØDECaster Pro to your computer by USB-C.
  2. Choose RØDECaster Multichannel to record microphones separately.
  3. Choose RØDECaster Stereo to record one stereo mix.
  4. Select the same audio device in your DAW.
  5. Create and arm the required tracks, then test the microphones.

1. Connect the RØDECaster Pro to your computer

Connect the USB-C cable to the back of the RØDECaster Pro and to your laptop.

2. Choose the recording mode

In your computer's audio settings, choose the input and output device that matches the way you want to record.

To record the microphones separately

Select RØDECaster Multichannel.

This setup allows you to record up to 4 separate microphone tracks in your recording software.

To record one stereo mix

Select RØDECaster Stereo.

This setup records one stereo track containing the mix of your session.

3. Configure your DAW

Open your recording software.

In the audio preferences, select the same input and output device as on your computer:

  • RØDECaster Multichannel for multichannel;
  • RØDECaster Stereo for a stereo mix.

4. Create the recording tracks

  • In Multichannel: create up to 4 mono tracks for the microphones.
  • In Stereo: create one stereo track.

Arm the tracks you want to record.

5. Test the microphones

Start a test recording in your DAW and speak into each microphone one at a time.

Before starting your podcast, check that the signal reaches the correct tracks.
