How to Record Your Podcast in Multitrack

Multitrack recording lets you recover the different sources of your session separately so you can edit them later in your audio software.

With the RØDECaster Pro, you can record multitrack to a microSD card or directly to your computer.

The multitrack recording described here is made from the RØDECaster Pro installed in our podcast studios, which you can book by the hour.

In short

  1. Enable Multitrack in the RØDECaster Pro settings.
  2. Enable microSD if you are recording to the card.
  3. Enable USB if you are recording directly to your computer.
  4. On microSD, the multitrack recording is stored in a PolyWAV file.
  5. On computer, use RØDECaster Multichannel in your DAW.

1. Enable multitrack

On the RØDECaster Pro screen, open:

Settings → Advanced → Audio → Multitrack

Then enable what you need:

  • microSD for multitrack recording to the card;
  • USB for multitrack recording directly to your computer.

2. Record multitrack to microSD

When you record multitrack to microSD, the RØDECaster Pro creates one PolyWAV file.

After your session, transfer the file to your computer using the RØDECaster transfer function or by connecting the microSD card directly to your computer.

How do you recover the individual tracks?

The PolyWAV file contains multiple audio tracks.

Depending on the software you use, it may automatically open the 14 tracks separately.

In other software, you may need to split or “explode” the PolyWAV file to obtain the individual tracks.

The exact procedure depends on your audio software.

3. Record multitrack directly to your computer

You can also record directly into your DAW by connecting your computer to the RØDECaster Pro by USB.

In this case:

  1. install the required ASIO drivers if you use Windows;
  2. select RØDECaster Multichannel as the input and output device;
  3. select the corresponding ASIO driver when required;
  4. configure the tracks you want to record in your DAW.
