How to Use the Mixing Console During Rehearsal
The mixing console is a central part of the rehearsal setup. It is used to send vocal microphones and other sources to the PA and monitors.
This tutorial covers the Yamaha MG10 mixing desk installed in our rehearsal studios, which you can book by the hour.
What is the mixing console used for?
- connecting and controlling vocal microphones;
- setting the level sent to the PA and monitors;
- connecting a phone, tablet or computer as an audio source;
- in some setups, sending audio to a computer by USB.
Start with low levels
Start with the channel volumes and master level low, then raise them gradually.
Set microphone gain so the signal is strong enough without clipping.
Check the channel routing
Check that the microphones are connected to the correct channels and that the channels you use are not muted.
Then raise the channel and master levels gradually.
